About QR Codes

QR (Quick Response) codes are two-dimensional barcodes that can store up to 4,296 alphanumeric characters. They are scannable by any smartphone camera and are used for URLs, payment links, WiFi credentials, contact cards, and event tickets. QR codes have built-in error correction — even if up to 30% of the code is obscured or damaged, it can still be read. This error correction also makes it possible to add a logo or image to the centre of a QR code without breaking it.

FAQ

What size should a QR code be for print?
For reliable scanning: at least 2cm x 2cm for close-up scanning (business cards, labels). 5cm or larger for typical viewing distances. For billboards or signage viewed from metres away, scale proportionally — a QR code should subtend at least 15° of the scanner's field of view. Higher error correction levels (H) allow more damage tolerance but produce denser codes requiring larger print sizes.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes (like those generated by this tool) encode data directly and never expire. Dynamic QR codes (used by marketing platforms) redirect through a URL that can be changed — these can "expire" if the redirect service is discontinued. For permanent use, use static QR codes encoding the direct URL.
